MAXCANÚ, YUCATAN — A 23-year-old motorcyclist lost his life on Wednesday, July 29th, following a head-on collision near Maxcanú on the old Mérida-Campeche highway. According to authorities, the accident occurred when the driver of a pickup truck traveling toward Maxcanú lost control of the vehicle near a National Guard facility. The pickup truck continued out of control, ultimately overturning in the adjacent roadside brush. The driver of the pickup truck suffered an acute panic attack following the crash and was treated by paramedics before being transported to a local hospital. Officers from the Secretariat of Public Security (SSP), the National Guard, and the State Attorney General’s Office (FGE) cordoned off the area to conduct site inspections and initiate an investigation into the cause of the fatal crash.
