MEXICO CITY — Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum hosted World Bank Group President Ajay Banga at the National Palace in Mexico City on Wednesday, July 29th, marking the first visit by a World Bank president to the country in five years. The World Bank chief highlighted that the goals of Plan México closely match the institution’s key strategic priorities. The bilateral visit underscores a multi-decade financial partnership between Mexico and the World Bank Group. As of June 2026, the World Bank holds financial commitments in Mexico totaling approximately $62.07 billion across 256 active projects through the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD). Additionally, the International Finance Corporation (IFC)—the private-sector arm of the World Bank Group—holds 181 projects in the country valued at more than $9.5 billion as of late July.
