Suffolk's first drought in four years arrives amid 46% increase in wildfires

It comes as Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service responded to 89 calls to wildfires so far this month, an increase of 28 incidents on July last year.
Mr Gale said: "The recent spell of hot, dry weather has led to a significant increase in fires across Suffolk, but residents can be reassured that Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service is well-prepared and ready to respond.
The Environment Agency declared seven areas of central, eastern and southern England – around half of the country officially in drought.
"We want everyone to stay safe and hydrated during the hot weather but every drop we can save is a drop more for nature and agriculture."
Despite the drought declaration, Essex & Suffolk Water has not yet imposed a hosepipe ban, though the company said it is reviewing the situation.
