Cadent Gas began a 21-week project in June to replace around three kilometres of gas mains dating from the 1950s and 1960s across 11 roads in Halesworth, with Wissett Road scheduled to be closed from July until September.
However, after works commenced on the street, contractors discovered a significant amount of water, which has created a "high operational risk".

"To safely undertake the gas main replacement works and manage any associated risks, it was necessary to implement a closure on Wissett Road.
Cadent had been carrying out work in the area replacing gas mains dating from the 1950s and 1960s.
