The blaze broke out at Dunwich Heath on the Suffolk Coast around 5pm on Wednesday. Specialist equipment including quad bikes has been used to tackle the fire, which has spread rapidly, prompting a major incident declaration. Many people were evacuated as crews focused on protecting properties including Coastguard Cottages, Mount Pleasant Farm and Cliff House Holiday Park. Those who were evacuated gathered at Westleton Village Hall where they were given an update on Thursday morning. It is unlikely people will be allowed back to pick up personal possessions such as medication within the next few hours.
