SRINAGAR: The Food Safety Department has prohibited the sale of five ghee products in Anantnag after laboratory tests found the samples unsafe under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, officials said.
The action followed a special enforcement drive conducted by the Food Safety Department, Anantnag, during June 2026 on the directions of the Commissioner, Food and Drugs Administration, Jammu and Kashmir.
During the drive, 18 samples of different ghee brands were collected from markets and establishments across the district and sent to the National Food Laboratory (NFL), Ghaziabad, for analysis.
Following the laboratory findings, the Designated Officer, Food Safety, Anantnag, ordered an immediate ban on the sale of the identified products across the district.
The Food Safety Department said it would continue regular inspections and enforcement measures to ensure the availability of safe and wholesome food in the district.
