Archbishop Eamon Martin met with senior representatives of OpenAI Ireland to discuss Pope Leo’s encyclical letter, Magnifica Humanitas. Published in May, the Pope used his first encyclical to focus attention on safeguarding people in the era of artificial intelligence. In response, representatives of OpenAI Ireland contacted Archbishop Martin. In a statement, the Archbishop said he appreciated OpenAI Ireland accepting the invitation for talks at a moment he described as a “historic crossroads” for humanity. Magnifica Humanitas followed a ‘ten-year dialogue’ that gradually deepened the Holy See’s interest in Artificial Intelligence.
