A data center developer is looking to borrow $15 billion, backed by Google’s guarantees, to build an AI campus and power plant in Texas for Anthropic. The project, developed by Nexus Data Centers, spans roughly 2,800 acres in Hubbard, Texas. A 500 MW data center in Texas will compete for the same power resources that Bitcoin miners have been tapping for years. As AI data centers absorb more of the state’s electrical capacity, miners could face higher energy costs or reduced availability. A $15 billion centralized data center project is the clearest possible articulation of the challenge those protocols face.
