South Waikato District Council Votes On Preferred Reform OptionAt its 30 July meeting, the South Waikato District Council voted to proceed with a Western Waikato Unitary Option ahead of the Government-imposed 9 August deadline for Head Start Pathway proposals, as part of the Local Government Reform process. Waipā District Council and Waikato District Council have indicated the Western Waikato Unitary is their preferred Head Start proposal option. The Western Waikato Unitary option also includes the Hamilton City, Waitomo, Ōtorohanga and Taupō councils, although without endorsement currently. “Putting that aside, as it stands – following extensive analysis by staff – we are of the view that the Western Waikato Unitary presents the best alignment and opportunities for the South Waikato.
