'Magic In Their Eyes': Job Programme Helps Gisborne Youth Find WorkA Gisborne job programme assisted 31 young people into employment over the past year, while the initiative helped 1000 people find work nationwide. Gisborne Mayor Rehette Stoltz and her team referred 57 young people for work during the year ending June, with 31 successfully securing permanent positions. She joined the programme after struggling to find work despite consistently making job applications. Programme co-ordinator Carmen Hihi said many organisations supported young people into work, but the taskforce stood out because Stoltz led by example. Hihi said not every placement resulted in permanent employment, but even short-term opportunities helped young people develop workplace skills, confidence and communication for future opportunities.
