ENNISKILLEN’s Acorn Cassidy produced an outstanding performance at the World Rowing Under-23 Championships, helping Great Britain secure a silver medal in the Women’s Coxed Four. Saturday’s final took place in hot, calm conditions, with Great Britain and the United States occupying the centre lanes as the pre-race favourites. Although the United States stretched their lead to around half a length, Cassidy and her teammates refused to let the race slip away. There was also success for Ireland, whose team returned home with a silver medal in the women’s single sculls and bronze in the men’s double sculls. Of particular local interest, Methodist College Belfast rower Sophia Young, who has family connections to Fermanagh, claimed an impressive silver medal in the women’s single sculls.
