BMW will join other German automakers by cutting several thousand jobs in Germany at the end of 2027 through a voluntary severance program, according to Reuters. The company said on Wednesday the program, negotiated with employee representatives, will focus on administrative and development positions, while production jobs will not be affected. A person familiar with the matter told Reuters that BMW expects its workforce to shrink by about 8,000 employees. BMW lowered its earnings forecast in June, citing weaker-than-expected demand in China, where vehicle sales have declined sharply in recent months. Nedeljkovic said the company faced challenging conditions but described the measures as necessary to improve BMW’s profitability.
