A drone struck a U.S.-owned floating storage and regasification vessel (FSRU) at Egypt’s Mediterranean port of Damietta on Wednesday, resulting in a fire that spread to a nearby tanker, according to Euronews. The incident marked the first drone strike on Egyptian territory since the outbreak of the U.S.-Iran war. Preliminary investigations indicated the fire was caused by a drone strike, while stressing that the investigation remains ongoing. The drone hit the Energos Winter, a Marshall Islands-flagged floating storage and regasification vessel owned by U.S.-based New Fortress Energy, before the blaze spread to the nearby LNG tanker Gaslog Salem. Iranian state television earlier identified Damietta as a potential target for retaliation following a reported Ukrainian strike on an Iranian vessel in the Caspian Sea.
