Melvin Council Jr. is suing the NCAA for another year of eligibility, and the outcome could significantly raise the ceiling of Bill Self’s Kansas roster. Melvin Council Jr., one of the Jayhawks’ most productive players last season, has filed a lawsuit against the NCAA seeking another year of eligibility for the 2026-27 campaign. Council filed the lawsuit July 23 in Douglas County, naming the NCAA and NCAA Division I Cabinet Chair Josh Whitman as defendants. Council averaged 12.7 points, 5.1 assists and five rebounds during his lone season at Kansas.
