To change this, planners, engineers, architects, contractors, and Civil Society Organisations met in Thimphu to promote inclusive design and ensure that accessibility is considered from the planning stage of every infrastructure project.
Poorly designed infrastructure can limit access to basic services, independence and social participation for persons living with disabilities.
DPO’s Programme Officer Yonten Jamtsho said, “We will discuss how to investigate public areas that provide services.
We should design structures that are inclusive and ensure their needs are considered from the beginning.
As Bhutan continues to expand its housing and infrastructure, participants said accessibility needs to be considered as a basic part of good design and not as an afterthought.
