Correction: Under the new policy, county emails are not automatically purged after 180 days. At a board of county commissioners meeting on July 21, chief information security officer for Grand County, Thomas Johnson, requested the county email retention policy be updated. On May 4, the county switched from platforms Kerio and Datacove for its email and archiving storage to Google Workspace. Under the previous email retention policy, county emails were automatically deleted after 185 days, and employees had to sort through and save them elsewhere. Since the new platform offers different storage and search capabilities, Johnson said the retention policy should change with it.
