Network Rail has celebrated the successful opening of the new Cambridge south station, with several thousands passengers having passed through the ticket gates during its very-first month. © Network RailThe first fully Great British Railways branded station, Cambridge South is intended to represent what might be achieved for local communities through the system’s new integrated way of operating, which brings together Network Rail track and infrastructure with train operators’ passenger services under a nationalised GBR Anglia organisation. Since opening, the station has been offering an alternative, greener transport option for those looking to access Cambridge Biomedical Campus, reducing reliance on vehicle use and reducing carbon emissions while helping to ease levels of congestion in the city of Cambridge. Jamie Burles, Managing Director for GBR Anglia said: It is fantastic to see so many people using the new station in just the first month since it opened and I’m sure this is only just the beginning of the story for Cambridge South.
