‘School’s Out’: the classic rock song that dominated the summer of 1972‘The song of the summer’ is a rather arbitrary title to give a song, often connected more to personal experiences than any measurable degree of chart success or critical acclaim.
There was, for instance, no doubting what the song of the summer was back in 1972.
However, if there was one song which unexpectedly rose above the rest, it was Alice Cooper’s ode to youthful liberation in ‘School’s Out’.
Confusingly released at the end of April, months before most schools break up for the summer holidays, ‘School’s Out’ was a commercial masterstroke from the shock rock progenitor.
Not only did the song dominate the charts of summer 1972, but its rebellious spirit and lyrical content made the Alice Cooper single rather evergreen.
