The 1960s band Eric Clapton never wanted to break up: “Over too soon”The mark of any good bluesman, like Eric Clapton, was to be a perpetual loner in the industry.
But by the time that Clapton left The Yardbirds, he was already reaching a point where no band could contain him.
Ginger Baker and Jack Bruce were virtuosos, and they could give him a run for his money every time they played.
Anyone would have killed to work with him, but even with a band like Blind Faith at his disposal, it was never going to work out as it should have.
The rest of his career wasn’t going to be easy going solo, but Clapton knew that he just needed the players who instinctively knew where he was going at every turn.
