The Vegan Society is preparing changes to its Vegan Trademark as it moves to meet incoming European Union rules on how companies communicate environmental and sustainability claims.
The Vegan Society said it is working towards full compliance with all relevant EmpCo requirements by the September deadline and has published its existing Trademark standards and non-conformity policy.
Phaedra Appleton, Head of Innovation and Development at The Vegan Society, framed the update around consumer protection rather than aesthetics alone.
The Vegan Society, a UK charity founded in 1944, coined the term “vegan” and describes the Trademark as the largest third-party vegan certification scheme worldwide.
“The Vegan Trademark is the original and best-known international vegan certification standard and our team will continue to work closely with Trademark holders by providing clear guidance on the appropriate use of the mark,” Appleton stated.
