MARSHFIELD, WI (OnFocus) – The Marshfield Common Council voted Tuesday to pursue a state economic development designation officials hope will attract new private investment along the city’s Central Avenue corridor. The council authorized staff to submit an application for Wisconsin’s Opportunity Zone 2.0 program, a designation intended to encourage redevelopment in qualifying low-income areas through federal tax incentives. If approved, investors who place capital gains into qualified projects within the district could become eligible for federal tax benefits. City officials said the designation would provide another tool to encourage redevelopment without committing additional local tax dollars. The state will determine whether Marshfield receives the designation.
