Black economic empowerment has stalled since 2020, report reveals

The South African
Broad-Based Black Economic Empowerment (BB-BEE) has stalled since 2020, according to the Research Report on South Africa’s Transformation Landscape (2013–2023).
This measures black ownership and economic interest in an enterprise, and is worth up to 25 points on the BB-BEE scorecard.
The fundamental objective of the Act was to advance economic transformation and enhance the economic participation of black people in the South African economy.
The BEE Scorecard 2023 jpg is based on data provided by the Broad-Based Black Economic Empowerment CommissionThis showed that ESD was the best performer followed by ownership.
When asked why black economic empowerment has stalled since 2020, Matona said it was in large part due to a stagnant economy and the Covid-19 lockdown.
