Aircraft lessor SMBC Aviation Capital placed a firm order for 100 Airbus A320neo-family aircraft, made up of 65 A321neo jets and 35 A320neo jets, Airbus said. SMBC Aviation Capital CEO Peter Barrett said the order is aimed at giving airline customers “a continuous delivery pipeline” of the latest-generation A320neo-family aircraft into the mid-2030s, framing it as a long-term bet on narrowbody demand and fleet renewal. Airbus also noted that SMBC Aviation Capital and its parent, Sumitomo Corp., together account for more than 900 Airbus commitments across aircraft types. SMBC positioned the Airbus deal as part of a 200-aircraft Farnborough package: 100 A320neo-family aircraft from Airbus and 100 737 MAX aircraft from Boeing (60 MAX 10s and 40 MAX 8s). SMBC also said it signed a separate agreement with CFM International covering up to 90 additional LEAP 1A engines to support its Airbus A320neo-family orders (70 firm, with purchase rights for 20 more).
