Armenia’s Anti-Corruption Court of Appeals has granted a motion to change the pre-trial measure imposed on former Education and Science Minister and Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) Vice Chairman Armen Ashotyan, replacing his detention with house arrest. The decision was announced by Ashotyan’s lawyer, Ruben Melikyan, in a Facebook post. “By the decision of the Anti-Corruption Court of Appeals, the custodial detention imposed on Armen Ashotyan has been replaced with house arrest,” Melikyan wrote. On July 3, the Anti-Corruption Court of First Instance extended his pre-trial detention by another month, prompting the defense to appeal the ruling. Ashotyan denies wrongdoing.
