Cut taxes, airport charges to boost air travel demand: IndiGo MD to govtIndiGo Managing Director Rahul Bhatia urged the government to reduce aviation taxes and rationalise airport charges, saying lower airfares would spur demand.
Bhatia said airlines had largely absorbed cost pressures instead of passing them on to passengers.
“Landing and parking charges have gone up as much as 34 per cent… airlines actually do their utmost to make sure that fares are competitive,” he noted.
Aviation Turbine Fuel (ATF) or jet fuel alone accounts for around 40 per cent of an airline’s operating expenses.
India is one of the world’s fastest-growing civil aviation markets.
