The Director of Yambuka Housing, Twapewa Kadhikwa, said their mission is simple: to move families from Okambashu into a Yambuka House, at the launch of the Yambuka Housing Projects, which took place on 25 July at Xwama Cultural Centre. The Yambuka team stated that the project is a more dignified, affordable alternative to the shacks many citizens currently call home. The team said at the launch more than 2 500 Namibians registered their interest in the Yambuka affordable housing units. “Residents from across Windhoek’s informal settlements gathered under tents to view the Yambuka House and engage with us.” He added that the Yambuka house is for the community; the community is not an afterthought in this project; they are the reason it exists.
