The application, lodged with Bolton Council by The Arch Company Properties Limited, relates to Arches 45–53A and land at Turner Street, off Folds Road. If approved, the scheme would see all existing buildings and structures on the site demolished, while the railway viaduct itself would be retained. Planning documents said: "Demolition is required to remove unsafe and redundant structures, eliminate hazards, improve site security and enable the site to be restored to a safe, secure and manageable condition." The demolition would be carried out by a specialist contractor using mechanical demolition equipment in accordance with a demolition method statement and construction phase plan. Following demolition, the site would be cleared of all waste and debris before new palisade fencing and secure access gates are installed around the perimeter.
