The Las Vegas Desert Dogs said this week they are disappointed by the Clark County School District's decision to pause the rollout of sanctioned high school lacrosse for the 2026-27 school year, and the National Lacrosse League franchise is now working to find a way for student-athletes to take the field this spring.
Welsh added that the additional time will let CCSD work with school communities and leaders to build capacity and grow student interest across the district.
Desert Dogs Chief Business Officer Jonah Haas, who helped lead the push for sanctioning, addressed the pause directly.
"This is a setback, but it doesn't change the momentum we've built for high school lacrosse across the state," said Jonah Haas, Chief Business Officer of the Las Vegas Desert Dogs.
"Sanctioning high school lacrosse is about creating more opportunities for student-athletes, and we're committed to working tirelessly until we find a solution.
