(CTWS Fire Management)People and critical infrastructure on the Warm Springs Reservation remained under threat as firefighters worked to gain control of the Bench Fire, which has burned more than 60,000 acres since it started July 23. Warm Springs Secretary-Treasurer and CEO Edward Henderson said the fire’s erratic behavior caught even experienced firefighters off guard. “Pacific Power initially de-energized power lines serving the Warm Springs area because of an approaching wildfire,” said Pacific Power spokesperson Simon Gutierrez. Following the tribe’s emergency declaration, Brian Fennessy, director of the U.S. Wildland Fire Service, visited Warm Springs this week to assess conditions and identify additional resource needs. “He came out yesterday to see firsthand what resources our firefighters were short on and what we needed,” Henderson said.
