SCOTLAND could be in for an “explosion” in the popularity of basketball after medal success in the 3×3 basketball at the Commonwealth Games.
The entire Scotland basketball contingent was jubilant following their success, and believes that the sport – which is one of the biggest in the world – could be in for an “explosion” in popularity across the country.
“I think that you’re just going to see an explosion, not only of people competing, but of people being involved in the sport, volunteering, coaching, coming to watch the sport.
“There’s lots of good people in Scotland pushing basketball, so hopefully it gets the recognition it deserves.”
Prior to the Commonwealth Games, the Caledonia Gladiators – Scotland’s only professional basketball team – confirmed they would retain the services of both Kyle Jimenez and Fraser Malcolm.
