SCOTLAND, along with the 54 other Uefa member associations, will boycott the next World Cup over governing body Fifa’s plans to form a company to run their commercial operations and sell shares to private investors. The decision was taken at an emergency meeting, held virtually and called by Uefa president Aleksander Ceferin, to discuss Fifa’s shock plans today. We unanimously and unequivocally reject Fifa’s proposal to transfer ownership interests in the World Cup and other Fifa competitions to private investors. “The World Cup cannot be treated as an investment product. The World Cup is not for sale.”
