Commuters using Peckham Rye station are getting a first hint of what the station’s front will look like when the old shopping arcade is demolished. Demolition began in March 2026 to clear the old arcade and replace it with an open plaza that will restore views of the station’s Victorian architecture, and has reached the point where visitors are starting to see what the future will look like. Demolition and clearance work is expected to finish in early autumn 2026. Also ongoing is a small upgrade planned for the station after the large step-free upgrade was put on hold. There’s also a separate project to restore the 1930s building on the opposite side of the street from the shopping arcade so that it faces the restored Victorian railway station across the public space.
