Celtic signed Johnston from CF Montreal in late 2022 for a fee of around £3.5 million, shortly after his previous World Cup campaign had come to an end. Johnston signed a new contract in 2024 that runs until 2029, leaving the Scottish champions in a strong position. After six months sidelined through injury, Johnston returned right in time for the split, and put in solid performances before heading off on international duty. As things stand, no official bid has arrived and Johnston remains a Celtic player. With around five weeks left in the transfer window, however, the club will be aware that interest can quickly become something more concrete.
