Rhode Island’s climate isn’t in “crisis,” according to a new report that pushes back against one of the state’s most hotly debated issues.
Sea level rise, long cited as a major threat to Rhode Island’s coastline, is real but not accelerating into a crisis, according to the report.
Rhode Island’s oyster industry continues to expand, with growth tied largely to cleaner water and policy changes.
USDA data cited in the report show the state’s turkey population has surged 705% since 1997, while honey production has jumped 601%.
“Rhode Island is warming,” the report concludes, “but the evidence does not support claims of an escalating climate crisis.”
