The Newport Show proved once again that Newport’s passion for art, history, and collecting is as vibrant as ever. More than 1,000 visitors gathered at St. George’s School last weekend for the 19th annual Newport Show, the Newport Historical Society’s signature antiques and fine art fair. Since its debut in 2007, the event has generated more than $4.6 million for the Newport Historical Society and the Boys & Girls Clubs of Newport County. As the nation approaches the 250th anniversary of American independence, guests explored Collecting the Revolution: Reflections on Independence, a special exhibition curated by fellows in the Historical Society’s Buchanan Burnham Summer Scholars program. For the Boys & Girls Clubs of Newport County, the event’s success carries an impact well beyond the gallery floor.
