The FCC’s Media Bureau ordered Disney in April to submit early license renewal applications for ABC-owned stations in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Philadelphia, Houston, San Francisco, Raleigh-Durham and Fresno. The agency has said the review is tied to an investigation into whether Disney and ABC diversity, equity and inclusion practices violated employment discrimination rules. The petitions to deny accuse ABC of partisan bias, alleged election influence, misinformation and discriminatory practices. The ABC filing follows separate submissions from former FCC officials and advocacy organizations, including the ACLU and Electronic Frontier Foundation, urging the agency to terminate the proceeding. More than 150,000 public comments have been filed in the FCC’s ongoing probe against Disney’s broadcast licenses.
