The Philadelphia Inquirer reported that Toll Man Joe's will replace the former Mixto at 1141 Pine St. in Washington Square West. Founder Lori Penrose purchased the Mixto property and aims to open Toll Man Joe's as a full-service spot with lunch, dinner, breakfast, brunch, cocktails, and local beers and wine. According to the Inquirer, the original Toll Man Joe's operated at 26 E. Oregon Ave. It was named for Penrose's uncle, Joseph “Toll Man Joe” Paul. Penrose envisions the Philadelphia location as a neighborhood restaurant, not a late-night dining spot.
