Former Hinds County District Attorney Jody Owens has been permanently disbarred by the Mississippi Supreme Court following his role in a high-profile federal bribery scandal. Though Owens surrendered his legal license earlier this month, the state’s highest court officially stripped his credentials on Wednesday. Owens, Lumumba, and Banks are set to appear in court for sentencing on Oct. 15. The Mississippi Bar has also petitioned the Supreme Court to disbar Lumumba. In Mississippi, the Supreme Court holds sole authority over suspending or disbarring attorneys from practicing law.
