The Court of Appeal has overturned the conviction of former Microfinance and Small Loans Centre (MASLOC) Chief Executive Officer Sedina Tamakloe-Attionu, acquitting and discharging her of all charges. The decision reverses an earlier High Court ruling that found Ms Tamakloe-Attionu guilty of offences including causing financial loss to the state and stealing over the alleged diversion of public funds during her tenure at MASLOC. Her appeal challenged both the convictions and the legality of the proceedings that led to her trial and sentencing in absentia. She was extradited to Ghana on June 9, 2026, and was admitted to the Nsawam Medium Security Female Prison on June 24 to begin serving the 10-year sentence imposed by the High Court. With Thursday’s ruling, the Court of Appeal has nullified that conviction, holding that the prosecution failed to meet the criminal burden of proof required to secure a conviction.
