President John Dramani Mahama will embark on a four-day official visit to Jamaica from August 2 to 5 as Ghana seeks to strengthen bilateral relations with the Caribbean nation and expand cooperation with the Caribbean Community (CARICOM).
The Presidency said the trip also reflects Ghana’s solidarity with Jamaica following the country’s recent experience with a major natural disaster.
As part of activities commemorating the shared African heritage between Ghana and Jamaica, President Mahama will lay a wreath at the shrine of Jamaican National Hero Marcus Mosiah Garvey and visit the Ghanaian Village Houses at Seville Heritage Park in St Ann.
President Mahama is expected to address a joint sitting of Jamaica’s Parliament, participate in a trade and investment dialogue, tour the Kingston Freeport and hold separate engagements with Opposition Leader Mark Golding.
According to the Presidency, the visit is expected to deepen Ghana’s partnership with Jamaica, strengthen engagement between Africa and CARICOM, and advance cooperation on reparations, trade and sustainable economic development.
