The first accused person in the National Food Buffer Stock Company (NAFCO) case, Hanan Abdul-Wahab Aludiba, was allowed to leave the courtroom on Thursday after the Accra High Court accepted his medical excuse. In its ruling, the court said Mr Abdul-Wahab should be permitted to take his medication and have the rest he indicated he needed. The judge further ruled that the trial would continue in his absence, considering the nature of the proceedings before the court. Minutes after the ruling, Mr Abdul-Wahab left the courtroom as the remaining parties continued with the case. The court is currently considering an application filed by his lawyers seeking a stay of proceedings in the NAFCO trial.
