A North Massapequa man was indicted for raping and murdering his 25-year-old sister-in-law in their shared home while his wife was out of town, Nassau County District Attorney Anne Donnelly announced. Joseph Horner was arraigned on Wednesday, June 29, on three counts of murder and two counts of rape, Donnelly said. If convicted, he faces up to life in prison without the possibility of parole, the DA said. Castle had been living in a separate apartment in the same house as Horner and her sister since 2024, the DA said. An autopsy revealed that Castle’s cause of death was determined to be manual strangulation, and Horner was arrested that day, the DA said.
