The Ministry of Public Health (MOPH) is highlighting leukaemia awareness during Leukaemia Awareness Month, urging the public to learn about the signs, risk factors, and importance of early diagnosis for this type of blood cancer.
Leukaemia is a blood cancer that starts in the bone marrow, where abnormal blood cells are produced, most often white blood cells.
These cells grow too quickly, do not work properly, and crowd out healthy blood cells.
Main types of leukaemia:Acute leukaemia:Grows quickly and needs urgent treatment, including ALL and AML.
MOPH reminds the public that a routine blood test may help detect cancers at an early stage, when they are more treatable.
