We have one of the worst doctor shortages in the country, with a provider-to-patient ratio nearly 50% worse than the national average. In fact, 80 of our 82 counties are officially designated as primary care shortage areas. Health systems like Baptist Memorial Health Care have ambitious plans to serve our communities. We are fortunate to have a proactive health care system with such a heavy presence in the area. It’s time for the Legislature to stop being an obstacle and start being a partner in expanding health care access for all Mississippians.
