A Columbus man is headed to prison for 20 years after a crash in Franklin a year ago that killed an Illinois man. The incident happened on July 6th of last year, when witnesses reported Staker driving at more than 100 mph, swerving through traffic, driving into the median and disregarding traffic signals. Police say that Staker showed signs of impairment after the crash and told medics about his drug use leading up to the wreck. The prosecutor’s office says Staker accepted responsibility for his actions, pled guilty, and offered an apology to Robertson’s family at the plea bargain and sentencing hearing. Johnson County Prosecutor Lance Hamner said in a written statement that he hoped “this sentence gives the Robertson family some measure of peace, knowing that the person responsible has been held fully accountable under the law.”
