The 10 pupils from Midfield Primary School in Orpington, aged 10 and 11, travelled to the "land of fire and ice" through the Turing Scheme, a DFE award that is solely to "reduce the attainment gap" for children with life challenges, SEN, demographic and socio-ecomomic vulnerabilities. All variables that make it very challenging to access the same experiences and life changing opportunities that many neuro-typical children from more affluent backgrounds have. Many of the children had never travelled abroad, flown on an aeroplane, or spent extended time away from home prior to the trip. To share their journey, the school produced a short film titled Fire & Ice, which was screened at a special premiere event held at Midfield Primary School. Children were invited to dress in black tie and arrived on a red carpet lined with silver rope barriers, with press photographers on hand to capture the moment.
