Vetting of all current employees should be done by 31 March 2027 and quarterly progress reports should be sent to the Department of Social Development and the Teddy Bear Foundation.
Under the settlement, the education departments must ensure that no person listed in Part B of the NCPR is employed or retained in a child-contact role.
NCPR checks must also be built into recruitment and appointment processes, and the departments must work with Social Development to create secure, timely verification mechanisms.
“We seek relief to address statutory failures undermining children’s rights to basic education, dignity and safety.”
The Basic Education Department and provincial education departments have proposed a settlement, which is expected to be finalised at the hearing.
