WINOOSKI, Vt. (WCAX) – Vermont State Police charged a Winooski man with stealing thousands of dollars in an online fraud scheme.
Tyrin Smith, 22, gained access to the bank accounts of two Moretown residents and opened an account using someone else’s identity.
Investigators said Smith then moved $18,000 into his account.
While searching Smith’s home, officers found evidence of the fraud as well as a gun, which police said he was not allowed to have because of a prior burglary conviction.
Smith is being held on $8,000 bail and has a court appearance in Washington County on Thursday.
