A 54-year-old South Carolina man was sentenced to 20 years in federal prison after traveling more than 700 miles to Ohio, believing he was meeting a 7-year-old girl for sex. U.S. District Judge Jeffrey J. Helmick handed down the 240-month sentence to Edward Wade Green of Aiken, South Carolina. He eventually agreed to drive from the Augusta, Georgia area to a prearranged location in Toledo, Ohio, to meet the girl. The prosecution was carried out under Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide Department of Justice initiative aimed at curbing online child sexual exploitation.
