Henry Evans, 53, entered Tesco Express, in High Street, Chesterton, Cambridge, on May 24 and asked the man at the till for help. Evans demanded the victim open the till, claiming the device he was holding would, “cause him some serious damage”, if he didn’t comply. The frightened victim opened the till, and Evans, of Monkswell, Trumpington, Cambridge, helped himself to about £150 in cash. The other charges related to damage he had caused to a vehicle barrier at the Grafton Centre, in Cambridge. He also stole nearly £200 worth of alcohol from various supermarkets across Cambridge in the weeks before the robbery.
